************
The celebration of the 200 years of the Cottage will go ahead, today.
Rose Cottage owes its existence to the rain. It was after the disastorous floods of 1806 and 1809 that Thomas and Jane purchased additional land and built a new home (Rose Cottage) on higher ground.
************
We could not let 200 years go by without a celebration.
The Bi Centenary of the Cottage is being held at Rose Cottage on 20th March 2011 from 10am til 4pm.
There will be entertainment through out the day.
Refreshments, morning tea, Sausage and Steak Sandwiches will be available for purchase, or if you would prefer bring a picnic lunch.
In addition we will have a table for checking on any genealogy/family information.
Do not forget to bring your picnic rug, chairs and umbrella for some shade.
We will have Rose Family merchandise and a raffle on the day and of course the Cottage to look over and a bit of memorabilia.
Lets hope for nice weather.
We hope to see you there to celebrate this amazing milestone.
The Rose Family Society Australia
The Thomas and Jane Rose Family Society was conceived by the two brothers, Roy and George Rose, descendants of Thomas and Jane Rose’s third child Joshua. George initially travelled to England to accumulate official documents to verify a proposed history of their family. Lindsay Rose, a cousin, actively encouraged the research.
In 1975 Roy and George officially set up the Society and planned a reunion for 1982. A committee was formed and the Society set as it’s goals, two targets:
- The conservation of Rose Cottage at Wilberforce,
- The publication of the family’s history and genealogy.
